Rhein II is a photograph made by German visual artist Andreas Gursky in 1999.[2] In 2011, a print was auctioned for $4.3 million (then £2.7m), making it the most expensive photograph ever sold.[3]
The photograph was produced as the second (and largest) of a set of six depicting the River Rhine.[2] In the image, the Rhine flows horizontally across the field of view, between green fields, under an overcast sky.[4]
Extraneous details such as dog-walkers and a factory building were removed by the artist via digital editing.[3] Justifying this manipulation of the image, Gursky said "Paradoxically, this view of the Rhine cannot be obtained in situ, a fictitious construction was required to provide an accurate image of a modern river."[5] Gursky produced a very large chromogenic colour print of the photograph, mounted it onto acrylic glass, and then placed it in a frame.[5] The image itself measures 73 by 143 inches (190 cm × 360 cm), while the frame measures 81 by 151 inches (210 cm × 380 cm).[1]
The print was originally acquired by the Galerie Monika Sprüth in Cologne, and subsequently bought by an anonymous German collector.[1] The collector sold the print by auction at Christie's New York on 8 November 2011, who estimated it would fetch a price of $2.5–3.5m.[1] It actually sold for $4,338,500[1] (then about £2.7m); the identity of the buyer has not been revealed.[3]
The work has been described by arts writer Florence Waters in The Daily Telegraph as a "vibrant, beautiful and memorable – I should say unforgettable – contemporary twist on [...] the romantic landscape"[6] and by journalist Maev Kennedy in The Guardian as "a sludgy image of the grey Rhine under grey skies".[3]

ci sono migliaia di persone in tutto il mondo che levano cose con Photoshop.
Per me quello è snaturare una foto, non certo renderla un'opera d'arte.

Semplicemente ci sono persone che amano i landscape come me... e questa è una bella foto.

 

ci sono migliaia di persone in tutto il mondo che levano cose con Photoshop.
Per me quello è snaturare una foto, non certo renderla un'opera d'arte.

 

lo si fa da sempre, anche senza photoshop  

 

anche l'aspettare che passi una persona è levare qualcosa da una foto... e non serve PS...

Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico is a photograph by Ansel Adams, taken late in the afternoon on November 1, 1941,[1] from a shoulder of U.S. Route 84.[2] The photograph became so popular and collectible that Adams personally made over 1,300 photographic prints of it during his long career.[3]
On October 17, 2006, Sotheby's auctioned a print of this photograph for $609,600 [4][5] Art historian H. W. Janson called this photo "a perfect marriage of straight and pure photography".[6]
The making of Moonrise [edit]

The making of Moonrise has attracted unusually strong interest. In 1941, Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes hired Adams for six months to create photographs of lands under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior. Adams was accompanied by his young son Michael and his best friend Cedric Wright on a long road trip around the west. They came upon the scene while traveling through the Chama River valley toward Española in late afternoon on November 1; accounts of what transpired differ considerably.
The image appeared in U.S. Camera Annual 1943, and Adams gave this account:[7]
It was made after sundown, there was a twilight glow on the distant peaks and clouds. The average light values of the foreground were placed on the "U" of the Weston Master meter; apparently the values of the moon and distant peaks did not lie higher than the "A" of the meter. . . . Some may consider this photograph a "tour de force" but I think of it as a rather normal photograph of a typical New Mexican landscape. Twilight photography is unfortunately neglected; what may be drab and uninteresting by daylight may assume a magnificent quality in the halflight between sunset and dark.
Later accounts were considerably more dramatic. According to Mary Alinder, they encountered a "fantastic scene", a church and cemetery near Hernandez, New Mexico, and pulled to the side of the road. Adams recalled that he yelled at his son Michael and at Wright to "Get this! Get that, for God's sake! We don't have much time!"[8] Desperate to capture the image in the fading light, they scrambled to set up the tripod and camera, knowing that only moments remained before the light was gone.
Adams gave a similar account in Examples[9]
I could not find my Weston exposure meter! The situation was desperate: the low sun was trailing the edge of clouds in the west, and shadow would soon dim the white crosses. . . . I suddenly realized that I knew the luminance of the moon—250 cd/ft2. Using the Exposure Formula, I placed this value on Zone VII. . . . Realizing as I released the shutter that I had an unusual photograph which deserved a duplicate negative, I quickly reversed the film holder, but as I pulled the darkslide, the sunlight passed from the white crosses; I was a few seconds too late! The lone negative suddenly became precious.
Adams was notorious for neglecting to record exact dates for his images. Moonrise had been variously listed as having been made in 1940, 1941, 1942, and 1944;[9] attempts were made to determine the date using astronomical calculations based on the Moon's position in the image. David Elmore of the High Altitude Observatory in Boulder, Colorado, concluded that Moonrise was taken on October 31, 1941, at 4:03 p.m.[10] Adams used this date in several publications, including Examples, though the time was given as 4:05 p.m. rather than 4:03 p.m. Dennis di Cicco of Sky & Telescope magazine noticed that the Moon's position at the time Elmore had determined did not match the Moon's position in the image, and after an independent analysis, determined the time to be 4:49:20 p.m. on November 1, 1941. He reviewed his results with Elmore, who agreed with di Cicco's conclusions.[11]
