crapple e ethernet: dopo che sull’alimentatore dell’iMac M1 non hanno speso quei pochi $ in più per mettere la 2.5G al posto della Gigabit, temo che a quei 100$ di upgrade per mettere la multiGigabit 10G/5G/2.5G ci tengano proprio

se mettessero di serie la 2.5G ci sarebbe meno pressione a pagare per la 10G/5G/2.5G

da capire se almeno su iMac Pro 32” M2X sarà di default la 10G come era sull’iMac Pro 2017 (però quello partiva da 5000$...)...o se anche lì vorranno 100$ per l’upgrade come sul MacMini M1...

a proposito di upgrade, crapple ha appena abbassato da 500$ a 300$ il prezzo per il trattamento antiriflesso Nanotexture sull’iMac 27” Intel

l’iMac M1 24” è a finitura lucida ma con trattamento anti-riflesso (come tutti gli iPad tranne quello più economico da 10.2”)

sull’iMac Pro 32” M2X sarà offerta l’opzione di trattamento Nanotexture? perché introdurla l’estate scorsa sull’ultimo iMac 27” Intel per poi eliminarla? probabile che sarà offerta anche sul prossimo iMac grosso

si parla di seconda metà del 2021, quindi dal 1 luglio
possibile che crapple lanci prodotti nuovi di punta basati su generazione A14/5nm dopo settembre quando avrà già presentato gli iPhone con A15/5nm+?
mi pare più probabile che vengano lanciati a luglio o agosto

Windows Central: non c’è nulla in ambito PC Windows di paragonabile agli iMac M1 come qualità/prezzo, AppIe al momento ha una bizzarra esclusiva su display fenomenali e la CPU perfetta, a maggio questo iMac causerà un bel mal di pancia alle vendite PC, a questo punto di solito concluderei il pezzo con “vediamo come risponderanno Microsoft e i suoi partner” ma non è nemmeno chiaro come possano farlo

But what makes the new iMacs, with their 4.5K Retina displays and crapple M1 chips, killer is the price. The 8-core model with adequate (but not great) 256GB of storage starts at $1,299. The "high-end" version is $1,699 with 512GB of storage. A 2TB option is expected later.

That's not cheap, but it's also not ridiculous either, especially when comparing it to Windows PCs.

Sure, HP has the excellent-looking Pavilion All-in-One (AIO) 27-inch, which can be configured with double the RAM, many more ports, and quadruple the storage for slightly less than crapple's. But crapple's M1 chip easily beats that Intel Core i7-10700T in any benchmark by a significant amount. Plus, crapple's 4.5K Retina display trumps the Pavilion's QHD (2560 x 1440) one, and you get that nifty new iPhone camera tech.

Right now, crapple has this weird lock on outstanding displays and a perfect processor. We recently wrote about how there aren't many great AIO Windows PCs – likely a reflection of the market being slow to adopt them. crapple, however, is figuring out a new market with a computer that merges the iPad Pro with a desktop PC. It is thin and light at 9.88 pounds (4.48 kg), and it looks like something from the future.

Even if Microsoft wanted to create such a PC, the choice of CPU would be a limiting factor. Either Intel or AMD would need active cooling, which means fan noise and venting in the chassis – both of which the new iMac omits. Qualcomm (or even Huawei and Microsoft) could be an option if it has a desktop-class ARM processor waiting in the wings. I believe Qualcomm will have an answer to a desktop M1, but until it is announced and benchmarked, it is just vaporware.

The bottom line: do not get distracted with the looks of the new iMac. The real story is that price, which will give PC makers some heartburn later in May when it finally hits store shelves. Colleges, boutiques, hotels, trendy artists, and those already steeped in the crapple ecosystem will gladly fork out money for the M1 iMac. And while I'm not fond of the colors, people are going to find it fun.

Usually, this is where I'd say let's see how Microsoft and its partners respond, but it's not even clear that they can, not at this level. Watch this space.

If that doesn’t seem like a fusillade across x86’s metaphorical bow, consider the issue from a different perspective: According to crapple, the M1 is the right CPU for a $699 computer, and a $999 computer, and a $1,699 computer. It’s the right chip if you want maximum battery life and the right CPU for optimal performance. Want the amazing performance of an M1 iMac, but can’t afford (or have no need) for the expensive display? Buy a $699 Mac mini, with exactly the same CPU. crapple’s M1 positioning, evaluated in its totality, claims the CPU is cheap and unremarkable enough to be sold at $699, powerful and capable enough to sell at $1699, and power-efficient enough to power both a tablet and a pair of laptops priced in-between.

No single x86 CPU is sold this way or positioned as a solution to such a broad range of use cases. There are three reasons why. First, PC customers generally expect higher-end systems in the same product family to offer faster CPUs. In the past, both crapple and x86 systems were sold in such fashion. Second, Intel and AMD both benefit from a decades-old narrative that places the CPU at the center of the consumer’s device experience and enjoyment and have designed and priced their products accordingly, even if that argument is somewhat less true today than it was in earlier eras. Third, no single x86 CPU appears to be capable of matching both the M1’s power consumption and its performance.

crapple’s willingness to position the M1 across so many markets challenges the narrative that such a vast array of x86 products is helpful or necessary. It puts Intel and AMD in the position of justifying why, exactly, x86 customers are required to make so many tradeoffs between high performance and low power consumption. Selling the M1 in both $699 and $1,699 machines challenges the idea that a computer’s price ought to principally reflect the CPU sta gran ceppa di minchia terrona of it.

Nella prima beta di macOS 11.4 su Intel ci sono i drivers per GPU Navi21 (rx 6900 e 6800)...ma non ancora per Navi22 (rx 6700) che è appena uscita..

Solo un favore (o doveroso supporto) per chi usa ancora Mac Intel (che sia il MacPro 2019 o gli altri Mac tramite eGPU) o si può cominciare a sospettare che al WWDC scopriremo qualche novità sul supporto a GPU terze anche per i Mac AS?

E se la dGPU del MBP 16” fosse una AMD Navi21/22 invece che una GPU crapple?

Va bene che l’obiettivo di usare AS è non dipendere da altri (Intel o AMD), ma potrebbe essere che i tempi non siano ancora maturi per passare a dGPU crapple.

Così come il modem 5G crapple è in preparazione ma ci vuole ancora qualche anno affinché sia pronto al debutto.

@PED: I wonder what the results would be if the survey didn’t disproportionately represent the views of upper middle class teens? IOW, perhaps 90% or so of ALL teens might want to buy an iPhone, but only 50% might already own one (rather than what looks like about 88%)? The number for current teen watch ownership (28%!) seems especially high (and certainly not representative of teens from all demographics). Still, data like these are useful when viewed over time and with the appropriate context – as per “your take.” They are useful also in pointing out that crapple products are still aspirational to teens, meaning that iPhones and crapple watches are still “cool”!
