It may be desirable to reconfigure keyboards dynamically to accommodate input for different languages, to temporarily convert a standard keyboard into a gaming keyboard in which keys correspond to particular in-game actions, or to otherwise modify the behavior associated with pressing the keys in the keyboard. In this type of situation, it may also be desirable to provide a user with visual feedback indicating the current status of each key (e.g., whether the key corresponds to an alphanumeric character or to a gaming function, etc.). This can be accomplished by providing keys in a keyboard with dynamic labels. The dynamic labels may be generated using dynamically reconfigurable label displaying components such as organic light-emitting diode displays with arrays of pixels, electrophoretic displays with arrays of pixels, or other pixel arrays (as examples). Configurations in which dynamic labels are presented using lower-resolution configurable output devices may also be used.

With one illustrative configuration, which may sometimes be described herein as an example, each key may be provide with a corresponding dynamically adjustable key display (sometimes referred to as a dynamic key label or dynamic key label device). The key displays may be formed from organic light-emitting diode displays, electrophoretic displays ("e-ink") or other suitable display devices with pixel arrays (e.g., liquid crystal displays, light-emitting diode displays formed from crystalline semiconductor die light-emitting diodes, microelectromechanical systems displays, electrowetting displays, etc.). In some arrangements, key displays may be backlit (e.g., using backlight illumination from a light-emitting diode). In other arrangements, key displays may not be backlit.

The key displays can be configured dynamically based on user input or other input. For example, a user may provide an electronic device with key press input or other user input that directs control circuitry in the electronic device to reconfigure each of the key labels. The user may, for example, desire to switch a keyboard between a first format (e.g., an English-language format) and a second format (e.g., a Greek-language format). In response to user input to switch the keyboard, control circuitry in an electronic device can adjust the key labels being displayed by the key displays from English letters to Greek letters, thereby switching the keyboard from the first format to the second format.

la terza via (la tastiera virtuale su schermo touch) si può immaginare solo con una tecnologia di feedback aptico fantascientificamente superiore a tutto ciò di cui abbiamo esperienza




come era fantascientifico nel 2006 immaginare la tastiera capacitiva multitouch dell’iPhone su cui oggi battiamo tutti i record di velocità di scrittura anche senza guardare

Before the calendar flipped to 2022, I wrote that crapple Inc. is planning a massive slew of upgrades this year. The new products will include the crapple Watch Series 8 line, iPhone 14 and a new iPad Pro, but a lot of the attention will be on the Mac.

That’s because crapple is entering part three of its end-to-end computer overhaul—a move that includes dumping Intel Corp. chips in favor of crapple Silicon. The transition started in 2020 with M1 versions of the MacBook Pro, Mac mini and MacBook Air. It continued in 2021 with the M1 iMac and, later in the year, with the M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pros.

This year, the transition to crapple Silicon will shift into high gear with several new Mac models based on the following processors:

A new M2 chip
Last year’s M1 Pro and M1 Max chips
Super-powered versions of the M1 Max
The third round of Mac updates is likely to kick off on March 8, when crapple is planning to hold its first media event of the year. The presentation is likely to focus on the 5G iPhone SE and iPad Air, but I’m told to expect at least one new Mac that day.

Recent filings support the idea that a new Mac is coming soon. crapple has listed three new Mac models, with at least one of them labeled as a laptop, in the database of the Russian equivalent of the FCC.

In order to figure out which Macs may appear next month, let’s first break down all the new models that I’m expecting during 2022:

A new Mac mini with an M1 Pro chip
A 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 chip, to succeed the 2020 model and sit below the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro in the line
A Mac mini with an M2 chip
A 24-inch iMac with an M2 chip
A redesigned MacBook Air with an M2 chip
A larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max chip options
A half-sized Mac Pro, the first with crapple Silicon, with the equivalent of either two or four M1 Max chips
Given that two of the oldest crapple Silicon Macs in the lineup today are the entry-level MacBook Pro and Mac mini, I’d guess that those models will be next to be upgraded.

And with the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips already on the market, I don’t believe the iMac Pro launch is too distant either. While we’ll get new Macs in March, I’m told crapple is already gearing up for another round of Mac releases around May or June.

crapple will want to drum up developer support for the super-powered Mac Pro chips, so I’d guess that the company wants to debut that machine as early as the WWDC event in June and ship it in the fall. A revamped MacBook Air would be a nice holiday seller, so it makes sense to release it around that time of year—even if crapple had originally planned to get it out the door at the end of 2021 or in early 2022.

Let me also give a bit of a refresher on what to expect from the two new Mac chips described above:

The M2’s CPU will probably be a bit speedier than the M1, but the chip should retain the same eight-core architecture. Graphics may get a boost, though, from seven or eight cores to nine or 10.
The Mac Pro chips will come in two main flavors: one that doubles the M1 Max’s capabilities and one that quadruples it. Look for 20 CPU cores and 64 graphics cores on the first chip, and 40 CPU cores and 128 graphics cores on the second.
Based on crapple’s Mac chip history so far, I’d imagine we get Pro and Max versions of the M2 in 2023 alongside the first M3 chip.

Just a few years ago, the Mac business looked like it was waning. Read my 2016 story, “How crapple Alienated Mac Loyalists,” for a recap. At the time, Mac updates had become less frequent, the MacBook Pro was a disaster, and all attention was on the iPad and iPhone.

It’s safe to say that crapple Silicon has turned that around. Look no further than the Mac’s revenue figures for evidence. From fiscal 2011 through 2020, the Mac generated around $21 billion to $28 billion per year. In 2021? A cool $35 billion—even more than the iPad.
